How it works

Three steps. The first one is just a conversation.

There is no application to survive before someone will speak with you. You do not need the right words, a case number, or permission from anybody to pick up the phone.

  1. Step 01

    Reach out

Call us or send the form on this site. Veterans, family members, VA caseworkers and referral partners all use the same door. Tell us as much or as little as you want to start with.

  2. Step 02

    We talk it through

A real conversation about your situation, what you need, and what we have open right now. There is no paperwork to get through before someone will speak with you, and no pressure to decide anything on that call.

  3. Step 03

    We get you settled

We get you into a place that feels safe — your own room, your own key, a house you can settle into. Then you can breathe, and we can talk about what comes next.

The two questions we hear first

What it costs

Every veteran’s situation is different, so we do not put a number on this page. We work out cost with you individually, based on your circumstances and your finances — and we will tell you plainly what that looks like before you decide anything.

Come see it first

If you would like, you can tour the house before you decide. We would be glad to show you around — walk through the rooms, see the street it is on, and ask us anything you want to ask.

Once you are in.

Getting housed is the start, not the finish. Here is what the weeks after look like.

You can rest first

The first thing that happens when you have a safe room is that you sleep. We are in no hurry to push you into anything before you have had that.

Then we sort out what is next

Work, benefits, transportation, paperwork, a doctor. Whatever is on your list, we will help you find the right door to knock on instead of leaving you to figure it out alone.

You decide the pace

Nobody is going to hand you a schedule of mandatory activities. If you want to be left alone for a week, be left alone. We are here when you need us.

Questions we get asked.

And the answers, in plain language.

Ask us something else

Ready when you are — today included.

You do not have to have anything figured out before you call. Tell us what is going on and we will start from there.
